The Value of Personality Profiles

I was chatting the other evening to a small business owner about the types of services we provide in Nova Partners. She was extremely interested in the area of personality profiling and had benefited herself from being involved in a programme that allowed her to develop some insights regarding her own personality a couple of years ago.

Specifically, it has allowed her to understand and manage her relationships and interactions with other people. “Recognising that another person’s behaviour is not always directed at you”, was one of many valuable insights she gained.

Many of her clients are small business owners and she can see how easily they would benefit from some help in this area, in terms of building a successful team, working more effectively in gaining new clients, and managing relationships with suppliers, vendors, etc.

If you would like to be more successful in managing relationships then personality profiling is a great way to help you to develop greater self awareness to help you to achieve this goal. If you would like to learn more, contact Noreen 087 6895857 or Valerie 087 2268422.

Interview Success Tips

Hello & welcome back! This is the second in our series of Interview Success Tips. Nova Partners have extensive experience in recruitment with both Irish and International companies and we know what works.

Follow our blog and ensure success in your next interview!

Tip Number 2

Interview Preparation

Once you have researched the company (reference Tip no. 1) your next step is to research the job. Use the advert and if at all possible get a copy of the job description. This is key to your success!

Once you have the job description take a blank piece of paper and create two columns. One column heading is technical skills/experience required (e.g. knowledge of excel) and the second is soft skills/experience required (e.g. able to work effectively in a team).

Now using the job description fill in each column with all of the technical and soft skills required. Once you have completed this it is worth going back and prioritising which skills seem most important. You can estimate this by the language used in the job description (e.g. essential v’s desirable) and often you can see the same skill mentioned more than once which also indicates importance attached to it.

Once you have this list you have a strong indicator of how the interview will be structured and areas that the interviewers will focus on.

In next weeks tip we’ll examine how best to prepare your answers based on this information.

Good luck! If you would like more help in preparing for your next job click on to http://www.positivecareeroptions.com or contact Noreen @ 087 6895857 or Valerie @ 087 2268422

Interview Success Tips

Welcome to the first in a series of Interview Success Tips. Nova Partners have extensive experience in recruitment with both Irish and International companies and we know what works.

Tip No. 1

Preparation
When preparing for your interview it is absolutely imperative that you research the company. No matter what level or type of job you are applying for the hiring company will expect that you learn as much about them as possible prior to the interview. The reason for this? The fact that you have conducted this research provides evidence of a real interest and motivation for their role and company, not just any job!

So how do you research the company effectively?

Yes, look on the web which is a rich source of information. But no, don’t memorise and recite back to the interviewer the first paragraph you find. Show that you have picked out relevant information and thought about it a little bit. Even better have a couple of well thought out questions on the information you have found.

Don’t forget to use other methods to gain information, be resourceful. For example look at your network. If you know anyone who works or has worked in the company already this is a great source of real information on the company values and culture.

Three Tips to get your CV noticed

Tip Number 1

Have a short profile/summary at the beginning of your CV. Ideally three sentences. First sentence states who you are and your level of experience. The second outlines a key experience from your past relevant to the role you are applying for. Third sentence states why you are suitable for the Job.

E.g. “10 years experience in the media industry, especially 5 years with RTE. In 2008, the product I was involved in developing achieved 2% of the market, which represented €500k in sales. I want to work in your company because of my knowledge and success in marketing development in the media industry.”

Tip Number 2

Make sure your CV is clearly laid out, always start with most recent first and don’t leave any unexplained gaps. Use bullet points.

Tip Number 3

Tailor your CV to match the role you are applying for. Review the advert/job description and highlight relevant experience you have. Use the same terminology as the hiring company to make it easy for the person reviewing CV’s – in many cases this person is not the hiring manager and will appreciate this!
